About Us

Our story began with a deeply rooted commitment to community service. Recognising that nutritional gaps were directly impacting children and their ability to learn in local classrooms, the Rotary Club of Rutherford Telarah stepped forward to champion a practical solution. By stepping into the school canteen space, those early community leaders built a foundational framework designed purely around student welfare.

However, as school operating environments grew more complex and volunteer structures across the region became increasingly fragile, one issue became clear. A volunteer-dependent model could no longer guarantee long-term stability for schools. To protect and scale this vital service, a visionary transition was instigated.

The board, then comprised entirely of Rotarians, diligently established Catering Maitland Ltd (CML) as an independent legal entity, deliberately structured to operate the school canteen services as a professional enterprise while faciliating enduring Rotary support. By evolving into an independent, fully audited entity with independent Public Benevolent Institution (PBI) status, the organisation detached from informal volunteer dependency and grew rapidly into the region’s service partners of choice.

That original spark of local compassion has matured into a highly sophisticated, regional social enterprise model. Independently governed by a volunteer skills-based board with our own transparent, audited accounts, we carry that proud Rotary heritage of service into every new school community we enter. With a Rotary representative on the board, CML continues to demonstrate that corporate professionalism and community heart can and do work hand-in-hand.
